Four Finalists Selected In Balken Roofing’s Free Roof Give-Away

Voting now open at www.noroofleftbehind.com
Asheville, North Carolina – Balken Roofing has announced four finalists that have been selected in its 1st annual No Roof Left Behind TM community program:

Alvin “Tom” Reese of Marion, nominated by Darline Atamanchuk

After using his savings/assets to pay off 10 years of his wife’s cancer treatments (she lost the battle); this legally blind diabetic man with severe heart conditions has his 37 year old daughter with Multiple Sclerosis and her 10 year old son to care for. Her condition has entered into her brain. He worked hard all his life-building the motors for NASCAR legends. All has been depleted and now living on disability. He is needing our help and a light at the end of the tunnel. Help him win the race for a new roof…PLEASE VOTE for this deserving man.

Lee Morrison & Lisa Cook of Asheville, nominated by Michael Arrendondo.

Lee and Lisa are a young married couple who purchased a house that needs to be renovated. This is a first home for the couple. Lee works for the City of Asheville, a student at Buncombe Communtiy College, and a Firefighter with Riceville Fire Department; Lisa works with the Buncombe Sheriff’s Office, where she is the PREA Coordinator. Being first time home owners, they try to make every dollar stretch, as they are currently renovating the house. I think this would be an awesome surprise, and a monetary relief, if they were selected as the deserving family of a new roof. It is my hope, as Lee and Lisa’s friend, that way they can focus on expanding their newly formed family.

Ralph Dinsmore of Asheville, nominated by Barbara Young

Ralph is a helpful and caring neighbor. He lets us know if bears are around. He replaces trash and recycles bins after pick-up. He daily checks on more than one neighbor, taking newspapers, and lending an ear to listen to their concerns. He is a Veteran of WW2 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Everyone needs a “Ralph” as their friend and neighbor. He NEVER points out the negative in people, always finds the good! Ralph will soon celebrate his 89th Birthday.

Pat Laughter of Asheville, nominated by Jody Embler.

Pat is a very good friend of mine who took me into her home when I was without a place to stay. I stayed with her for 3 years and over the years she became like a grandmother to me. She always made sure I had something to eat. She is also very nice to her neighbors who have a child fighting cancer. She visits them frequently and takes the kids candy and goody baskets. I would love for my friend (grandmother) to be able to get a new roof. She is elderly and on fixed income and can not afford the repairs. She gave me a roof to stay under for 3 years and I hope she is able to get a new one.

One of these community members will receive a free roof – valued between $5,000 and $10,000– from Balken  Roofing. The public is invited and encouraged to read the finalists’ stories and vote for their favorite at www.noroofleftbehind.com.

“We had an incredible number of wonderful nominees for our first year. The process to narrow to the final four was extremely challenging,” said Bob Balken. “Our finalists are all very deserving and we look to our community to help us pick our winner with their votes.”
